My friend John always has something to tell me. He knows so much that young men have to have older and more worldly wise men to tell them. For instance who to trust, how to care for others, and how to live life to the fullest.
Recently, John lost his wife Janet. For eight years she fought against cancer, but in the end her sickness had the last word.
One day John took out a folded piece of paper from his wallet. He had found it, so he told me, when he tidied up some drawers at home. It was a small love letter Janet had written. The note could look like a school girl's scrawls about her dream guy. All that was missing was a drawing of a heart with the names John and Janet written in it. But the small letter was written by a woman who had had seven children; a woman who fought for her life and who probably only had a few months left to live.
It was also a beautiful recipe for how to keep a marriage together.
Janet's description of her husband begins thus: "Loved me. Took care of me. Worried about me."
Even though John always had a ready answer, he never joked about cancer apparently. Sometimes he came home in the evening to find Janet in the middle of one of those depressions cancer patients so often get. In no time he got her into the car and drove her to her favourite restaurant.
He showed consideration for her, and she knew it. You cannot hide something for someone who knows better.
"Helped me when I was ill," the next line reads. Perhaps Janet wrote this while the cancer was in one of the horrible and wonderful lulls. Where everything is -- almost -- as it used to be, before the sickness broke out, and where it doesn't hurt to hope that everything is over, maybe forever.
"Forgave me a lot."
"Stood by my side."
And a piece of good advice for everyone who looks on giving constructive criticism as a kind of sacred duty: "Always praising."
"Made sure I had everything I needed," she goes on to write.
After that she has turned over the paper and added: "Warmth. Humour. Kindness. Thougtfulness." And then she writes about the husband she has lived with and loved the most of her life: "Always there for me when I needed you."
The last words she wrote sum up all the others. I can see her for me whe she adds thoughtfully: "Good friend."
I stand beside John now, and cannot even pretend to know how it feels to lose someone who is as close to me as Janet was to him. I need to hear what he has to say much more than he needs to talk.
"John," I ask. "How do you stick together with someone through 38 years -- not to mention the sickness? How do I know if I can bear to stand by my wife's side if she becomes sick one day?"
"You can," he says quietly. "If you love her enough, you can."

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.
The employer was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.
When the carpenter finished his work and the employer came to inspect the house and handed the front-door key to the carpenter. "This is your house," he said, "my gift to you."
What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.
So it is with us. We build our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up less than the best. At important points we do not give the job our best effort. Then with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realized, we would have done it differently.
Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build. Even if you live it for only one day more, that day deserves to be lived graciously and with dignity. The plaque on the wall says, "Life is a do-it-yourself project." Who could say it more clearly? Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and the choices you make today.

Suppose someone gave you a pen — a sealed, solid-colored pen.
You couldn’t see how much ink it had.
It might run dry after the first few tentative words or last just long enough to create a masterpiece (or several) that would last forever and make a difference in the scheme of things.
You don’t know before you begin.
Under the rules of the game, you really never know.
You have to take a chance!
Actually, no rule of the game states you must do anything. Instead of picking up and using the pen, you could leave it on a shelf or in a drawer where it will dry up, unused.
But if you do decide to use it, what would you do with it? How would you play the game?
Would you plan and plan before you ever wrote a word?
Would your plans be so extensive that you never even got to the writing?
Or would you take the pen in hand, plunge right in and just do it, struggling to keep up with the twists and turns of the torrents of words that take you where they take you?
Would you write cautiously and carefully, as if the pen might run dry the next moment, or would you pretend or believe (or pretend to believe) that the pen will write forever and proceed accordingly?
And of what would you write: Of love? Hate? Fun? Misery? Life? Death? Nothing? Everything?
Would you write to please just yourself? Or others? Or yourself by writing for others?
Would your strokes be tremblingly timid or brilliantly bold? Fancy with a flourish or plain?
Would you even write? Once you have the pen, no rule says you have to write. Would you sketch? Scribble? Doodle or draw?
Would you stay in or on the lines, or see no lines at all, even if they were there? Or are they? There’s a lot to think about here, isn’t there?
Now, suppose someone gave you a life...

Nate Ruess:Nothing Without Love歌词
I am nothing without love
I'm but a ship stuck in the sand
Some would say that I'm all alone
But I am, I'm nothing without love
I wanna hold her in my arms
She feelin' alone, she feelin' sad
I would take credit for what's wrong,
But I am, I'm nothing without love
Three years at sea after the storm
And this sinking ship-love you put me on
God, I wish a gust of wind would come
And carry me home
But I, I got nowhere to go
Now I hear you sharp with the force of a wave
So I said myself I'm headed for the unpast day
Hey hey, I don't wanna lose this one
She made me feel whole, you know
I am, I'm nothing without love
Oh baby, show me a sign
Send me a signal that everything's fine
Come on, stand up right up by my side
You know that I wanna rest in your life
Na na na hey, ooh oh
Na na na hey, ooh oh
Na na na hey, ooh oh
Na na na hey, ooh oh
I wanna rest in your life
Na na na hey, ooh oh
Na na na hey, ooh oh
Na na na hey, ooh oh
Na na na hey, ooh oh
I am nothing without love
I'm just these palms without a pair
And I would take credit for this all
But I, I am nothing without love
Oh baby, show me a sign
Send me a signal that everything's fine
Come on, come one, come on right by my side
Don't you know that I, don't you know that I
Don't you know that I, I wanna rest in your life
I wanna rest in your life
I wanna rest in your life
I wanna rest in your life
'Cause I, I am nothing without love
Na na na hey, ooh oh
Na na na hey, ooh oh
Na na na hey, ooh oh
Na na na hey, ooh oh

Stewart Mac I Love You
Lyrics:
There was once a broken man
Who walked a lonely road
And gave up all his dreams
I was once this broken man
Stared into the sun
And just refuse to see
I was lost amongst the clouds that wouldn’t fade
I was looking for an answer
I was searching but I didn’t take the time
I was down and
Out and feeling so afraid
I love you
The way that you turn me round
And chase away my blues
I love you
The way that you change my world
When I’m with you
Love may come and love may go
But now it’s here to stay
Forever and a day
And when I see you smile
I fall into your eyes
To never fade way
I need you here to make the dark clouds drift away
And to make the mornings bright again
I’m right here for you there’s nothing more to say
I’m just happy that you’re mine and here to stay
I love you
The way that you turn me round
And chase away my blues
I love you
The way that you change my world
When I’m with you
It doesn’t matter where we’re from and where we are going
As long as you’re with me all the way
And the nights are long and lonely and
I’m waking up
To find a brighter day
I love you
The way that you turn me round
And chase away my blues
I love you
The way that you change my world
When I’m with you

The Band Perry - If I Die Young
Lyrics:
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Lord make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother
She'll know I'm safe with you when she stands under my colors
Oh, and life ain't always what you think it ought to be, no
Ain't even gray, but she buries her baby
The sharp knife of a short life
Well, I've had just enough time
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
The sharp knife of a short life
Well, I've had just enough time
And I'll be wearing white when I come into your kingdom
I'm as green as the ring on my little cold finger
I've never known the loving of a man
But it sure felt nice when he was holding my hand
There's a boy here in town, says he'll love me forever
Who would have thought forever could be severed by
The sharp knife of a short life
Well, I've had just enough time
So put on your best, boys, and I'll wear my pearls
What I never did is done
A penny for my thoughts, oh no, I'll sell 'em for a dollar
They're worth so much more after I'm a goner
And maybe then you'll hear the words I been singing
Funny, when you're dead how people start listening
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
The ballad of a dove
Go with peace and love
Gather up your tears, keep 'em in your pocket
Save them for a time when you're really gonna need them, oh
The sharp knife of a short life
Well, I've had just enough time
So put on your best, boys
And I'll wear my pearls

Be good to everyone who becomes attached to us; cherish every friend who is by our side;

love everyone who walks into our life.
It must be fate to get acquainted in a huge crowd of people…
I feel, the love that Osho talks about, maybe is a kind of pure love beyond the mundane world, which is full of divinity and caritas, and overflows with Buddhist allegorical words and gestures,
but, it seems that I cannot see through its true meaning forever…

Maybe, I do not just “absorb” your love; but because the love overpowers me and I am unable to
dispute and refuse it…
Do you know? It’s you who light up my life! And I stubbornly believe that such love can only be experienced once in my life.
Because of love, we won’t be lonely anymore; because of yearning, we taste more loneliness.

You Have Only One Life,希望大家喜欢!
There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real! Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go;be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trails to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy. Always keep yourself in other’s shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.
The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can’t go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you’re the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.
Please send this message to those people who mean something to you, to those who have touched your life in one way or another, to those who make you smile when you really need it, to those that make you see the brighter side of things when you really down, to those who you want to let them know that you appreciate their friendship. And if you don’t, don’t worry, nothing bad will happen to you, you will just miss out on the opportunity to brighten someone’s day with this message.

However mean your life is, meet it and live it;
Do not shun it and call it hard names.
It is not so bad as you are.
It looks poorest when you are richest.
The fault-finder will find faults in paradise.
Love your life, poor as it is.
You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poor-house.
The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the alms-house as brightly as from the rich man’s abode;
The snow melts before its door as early in the spring.
I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there,
And have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace.
The town’s poor seem to me often to live the most in dependent lives of any.
May be they are simply great enough to receive without misgivings.
Most think that they are above being supported by the town;
but it often happens that they are not above supporting themselves by dishonest means,
which should be more disreputable.
Cultivate poverty like a garden herblike sage.
Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends.
Turn the old, return to them.
Things do not change; we change.
Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.
The pure, the bright, the beautiful,
That stirred our hearts in youth,
The impulses to wordless prayer,
The dreams of love and truth;
The longing after something’s lost,
The spirit’s yearning cry,
The striving after better hopes
These things can never die.
The timid hand stretched forth to aid
A brother in his need,
A kindly word in grief’s dark hour
That proves a friend indeed ;
The plea for mercy softly breathed,
When justice threatens nigh,
The sorrow of a contrite heart
These things shall never die.
Let nothing pass for every hand
Must find some work to do ;
Lose not a chance to waken love
Be firm,and just ,and true;
So shall a light that cannot fade
Beam on thee from on high.
And angel voices say to thee
These things shall never die.

想知道Unit4 What are you doing的英语教案要怎么做吗?
在五个动词短语中,do the dishes是五(上)Unit 4要求四会的词组,read a book, cook dinner在五(上)中学过意思相同的两个短语read books和cook the meals,并且属于四会内容。draw pictures , answer the phone
I am doing the dishes .
Step 1:Warm-up, TPR活动
T: Hello, boys and girls. This class I'll divide you into 4 groups. Group1.2. 3. 4.
T: Before class. Let's warm up. Please follow me. Do as I do.
eat/ drink/read/ write/ draw/ jump/ run/ swim/ fly(T: Wonderful! Let’s go on.)
set the table/ sweep the floor/ wash the clothes./do the dishes./cook the meals./clean the bedroom.
3.sing a song: 《I can help》.
Step 2. Unit 4 What are you doing
1.T: Boys and girls. Here’s a ping-pong. Do you like playing ping-pong.(做动作)Please look at me. What am I doing now?(边托球边解释:现在,我正在干什么?)You can ask me: What are you doing?(拿词卡边领读边板书)
2.Ask me together. (师再次托球回答)I am playing ping-pong.(让两生试着托球,师拿词卡I’m ---ing领读、板书。)
3.T: From this class .We’ll learn Unit 4. What are doing?
通过play ping-pong这一正在进行的动作,鼓励学生用What are you doing?
Step 3.Presentation
1.Free talk 引出do the dishes.
T: Hello .What's your name?
Nice to meet you.
By the way, can you do housework?
What can you do?
Great. You're helpful.
T: Hello. What can you do at home?
Good boy/girl. You're helpful.
T: Boys and girls ,can you do housework? Ss: Yes.
T: You're helpful .Please guess what I can do at home. You can use the sentence:“Can you ---”)
T: Yes, I can do the dishes .Who can write the phrases?(师让一名学生上黑板写词组,写完后老师让学生稍等,然后自己边洗盘子边说:I am doing the dishes now. Please try.)
T: What are you doing?
S: I am doing the dishes.
(板书领读:do add-ing is pronounced /i□/--- doing.
再次板书:I am=I'm(领读,拿盘子准备传)
T: This time, Let's pass the dish one by one, and ask: What are you doing?
(领读3-4遍之后开始传,全体同学一起打着节奏问:What are you doing?
What are you doing ?)
2. cook dinner
T:(与最后一名学生对话)You can do the dishes . Can you cook dinner?
S: 如果生回答 Yes, I can. T: You’re helpful. Please do an action and say.
如果生回答No, I can’t 老师边做动作边启发鼓励学生T: You can’t? cook eggs, can you? What about noodles?
T: It means: cook the meals.
Here’s a pot .Who can ask me with the sentence : (指标题)
T: I am cooking dinner .I am cooking fish. Mmm-Yummy. (板书-ing. Cook add ing is pronounced cooking画连读符号)
T: Now, please cook something and practise in pairs. You can cook eggs. noodle,. tomatoes, potatoes, green beans and so on.
T: Mm----Yummy. SA. What are you doing?
SA: I’m----.(让两名学生一组起来汇报)
(设计思路:当盘子传到最后一名学生,老师问:You can do the dishes . Can you cook dinner?
3.read a book.
T: Wonderful. Please come here. This is for you.(把故事书奖励给学生) Please sit on the chair and read it. (师指正在读书的学生说)read a book .
T:(师蹲下去问)What are you doing?
(引导学生试着加ing,并读出) Please add-ing and try to read it.
(师画连字符号)Who can help her? Wonderful. This is for you[发奖品]
T: I have many books here.
(师边说边走下去将书分给学生) Please read it!
T: (师启发学生说出具体的书目)You’re reading a Chinese book.
4.draw pictures
T: You’re reading a picture book. Let’s see.
beautiful pictures.(板书pictures)Can you draw pictures.(师边说边画,然后板书、领读。)
T: Can you draw pictures? Let’s finish the picture together. Please draw one thing. You can draw a tree, a path, grass, flowers,an apple and so on .
5.answer the phone
T:(电话铃声响起)I’m sorry. Please wait a minute. Let me answer the phone.(老师拿起听筒)
Hello. It’s Miss Lu. I’m having English class. I’m very busy. Bye.
Practice:
B、T: Next, practise in pairs. Use your books, like this.(老师把英语课本卷起,作为电话听筒,并出示下面的对话。)
A: Hello.
B: Hi. It's ________ . What are you doing?
A: I'm answering the phone. What are you doing?
B: I'm _________ (drawing pictures /doing the dishes /cooking dinner / reading a book )
It's Miss Lu.
Step 4 Practise
1.Listen to the tape. Listen, point and repeat.
2.Look at the blackboard and read after me .(do---doing---doing the dishes)
3.T:(师生分工读)Ss: What are you doing? What are you doing?
T: I’m doing the dishes. (教师边做动作边说)What are you doing?
5.Play a guessing game.
Step 5 Consolidation and extension
T: Boys and girls, spring is here.Group1 is going to do housework..Group2 is going to have a picnic . Group3 is going to have a sports meeting. Group4 is staying in the classroom.(教师边说边将卡片发下去。)
What are you doing? I'm _____ing.
